Mars Switzerland Ltd is proud of its established, long-term commitment, which promotes initiatives and organisations worthy of support, to the best of its ability.
Partnership with Swiss Animal Protection SAP
With its popular pet food brands, Mars Switzerland has been supporting projects and institutions which focus on the welfare of animals as long as one can remember. What, therefore, could be more obvious than teaming up with the oldest, nationally based animal welfare organisation – Swiss Animal Protection SAP – which has been actively committed to animals since 1861? We are of the opinion that this commitment deserves support and are therefore joining forces with SAP to promote activities that have the well-being of animals at heart.
In 2009, for example, as PEDIGREE, in conjunction with Swiss Animal Protection SAP launched the project "Help us to Help Dogs", which provided an unprecedented commitment to supporting animal shelters.
Swiss Animal Protection SAP can count on regular donations of cat and dog food from Mars, which subsequently benefit animal shelters in need.
Traditionally, World Animal Day, (4 October) is the day which WHISKAS and PEDIGREE devote to animals, as this is the day which reminds us to show respect and kindness to our four-legged friends. Together with Coop, WHISKAS and PEDIGREE take advantage of World Animal Day to campaign for selected animal rescue centres which practice these values day in, day out.

Human – Animal Bonding
Apart from its comprehensive practical commitment Mars Incorporated has been supporting the development, research and dissemination of scientific findings surrounding the relationship between human and animal since 1970. This support includes the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on the Human – Pet Relationship, IEMT Switzerland, which has been researching the bond between humans and pets since 1990. The institute communicates the findings of its scientific research using awareness programs, training and information brochures to promote a cross-generation understanding for rescued animals.

As different as these by Mars Switzerland supported approaches may be, they all show that animals are an important and indispensable part of our society: yet another reason why our commitment is long-term and with the focus on the welfare of both humans and animals.
